Communicating Your Research - Online Workshop

Access: Multi-day. Can be accessed at any time but must be completed within the two week period specified above.

Cost: This workshop is free for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. However, the preauthorization of a valid credit card is required as part of the registration process. A $50 penalty will be applied to all late cancellations (cancellations that are not made 5 days or more before the workshop date), no shows, or incomplete attendance. These penalties are only charged after the completion of a workshop and no charges are ever made to those who participate in full.

Good communication skills are essential to a successful research career. This short online workshop highlights the importance of communicating well and focuses on three common communication opportunities that researchers face on a regular basis:

  • Presentation skills;
  • Writing skills; and
  • Poster creation

Delivered by one of our seasoned facilitators, this workshop will teach you the latest tips and techniques to make sure your next conference talk, email or poster presentation is impactful and memorable.

Learning outcomes:

At the end of the session, you will:

  • Have learned how to construct a clear and concise narrative that audiences will remember
  • Understand how to use text, visuals, and interactivity to communicate your message effectively
  • Take a clear and cohesive approach to your written communication
  • Have been exposed to a variety of poster presentation layout styles and tips to communicating your research effectively
